The aims of this study were (a) to develop the Career Consciousness Scale for elementary, junior and senior high school students and (b) to investigate the relationship among four areas of career consciousness (interpersonal relationship, information utilization, future planning, and decision making), two areas of work values (interpersonal orientation and status orientation), and academic self-efficacy. Participants in this study were 196 elementary school students (91 boys and 105 girls), 427 junior high school students (210 boys and 217 girls), and 453 senior high school students (223 boys and 230 girls). They completed the Career Consciousness Scale, the Work Values Scale, and the Academic Self-efficacy Scale. Principal component analyses resulted in the Career Consciousness Scale which consisted of 31 items for elementary school students and 42 items for junior and senior high school students. Reliabilities of the Career Consciousness Scale were confirmed with a coefficients, congruence coefficients, test-retest reliability coefficients, and good-poor analyses. Validities of the Career Consciousness Scale were confirmed by comparing among three student groups which were classified based on the degree of their career decision and with content validity based on teachers' ratings. Canonical correlation analyses indicated that four areas of career consciousness were positively related to interpersonal orientation and academic self-efficacy at each of the developmental stages.
