Description

The purpose of this study is to examine how emotion rules is taught in the social work education and clarify its characteristics. From the textbook used in the training courses for social workers and psychiatric social workers, the author extracted descriptions about feeling rules and conducted a qualitative analysis with reference to the KJ method. As a result, emotion management was performed according to the feeling rule of accepting and feeling empathy for the client, and was the basis of attitudes and interventions to the client. Empathy was supposed to comprehend by the feelings of others through empathy and imagining the viewpoints of others. Supporting relationships with clients were said to be emotional interactions and relationships were built at emotional level. However, it has also been shown that one's emotions sometimes hinder relationships with clients. On the other hand, it was speculated that such feeling rules were not realistic, suggesting the need to revisit educational content.
