Description

The purpose of this study is to investigate the change of students' view of the sick through specialized nursing education. Students' images of diabetes mellitus, cancer and schizophrenia and those afflicted with them were studied. The subjects were 78 first-year students, 71 second-year students and 63third-year students of the nursing college. It was found: I) Third-year nursing college students had experience of contact with the sick, most of whom had been admitted to hospital. Aside from third-year nursing college students, only a few students had experienced schizophrenia patients. 2) Third-year students produced the highest number of association words for the sick of all three illness. 3) The association words showed an increase in objectiving with progress through the college.
