This article reports a rare case of the reincarnation type. The case is rare for the following two reasons. First, the case involves abortion: The child made remarks apparently suggesting that he was the child aborted at the age of three months when his grandmother was pregnant. When asked who he had been with before he was born, the child said: "I was with grandma, grandpa, mom, and Hie (the name of his uncle)," implying that he was with his parents (his present grandparents), his sister (his present mother), and his brother (his present uncle). This interpretation appears to be further supported at least to the child's family members by the child's behavior of (i) clinging to the neck of his mother or his parents when he sleeps or when he is embraced as if he desperately refuses to leave them (this time), and (ii) asking his family to discard the "proof of service," a document commemorating the service for the aborted child, displayed in the living room of his grandparents' house, saying that: "This was me!" The second interesting feature of the case is the involvement of a natural spirit, specifically a fox spirit. The child appears to be able to see the fox spirit and to have conveyed the spirit's messages that were relevant to his grandmother's health. The presence of natural spirits is often reported in spirit-related episodes in Japan but rarely in those in the West, so the present case is also interesting in that it reflects the typical Japanese features.
