Description

On January 1, 1999, 11 member nations of European Union (EU) started transaction of new unified currency called "Euro" among businesses. This activity will make deep impact on sustainable economic growth in Europe. 　This paper is to examine historical perspective of EU in terms of unification of currencies in 11 countries. In addition, creation of the Information Society as well as trends in foreign investment is analyzed. The study hinted a rising potential economic power of EU in comparison with USA. In the end, lessons from European prosperity and external relations for Japan in the fields of finance, information technology and government efficiency are described. \n　ユーロの導入によって欧州経済が変貌している。本学を含めた学校法人といえども、資産運用を従来の国内対ドル建て外債のどちらにウエイトを置くのかに加えて、新欧州通貨ユーロに応分のシフトをするべきかの選択の幅が広がっている。本稿はユーロ誕生を軸に欧州経済の諸要素を分析し、欧州の将来性を鑑みて日本が取るべき方向に関して、若干の提言を行っている。
