Description

「英語村」は非英語圏で疑似英語圏を体感できる大規模な教育施設であり、利用者はそこで英語を英語で学ぶ。2020 年に東京オリンピックを迎えるにあたり、日本ではさらなる英語教育の推進が望まれている。韓国の英語村ムーブメントを受けて、日本では民間業者が主体となって英語村が活発な動きを見せている。今回日本四カ所の「英語村」を実際に訪れ、レッスンを受講する傍ら、職員に施設の特色やオリンピック後の英語村存続の方策などについてインタビュー調査を行った。

‘English Village’ is a large educational facility where people study English by monolingual method instructed by native-speakers under the circumstance similar to an English-speaking country. As Japan hosts the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, English language education is a key for demonstration of good hospitality to visitors outside the country. After ‘English Village’ movement in South Korea, corporations now build it in order to promote English language education in Japan. In this investigation, the author and her seminar students conducted fieldwork using action research technique: they visited four actual sites, received lessons and interviewed staff there.
