However, our investigation of these families revealed that Sinhalese native speakers and even their children often switched to Tamil when listener's native language was Tamil. This is the CS functioning as thoughtful consideration to Tamil as a minority language. There seems to be a free conversation space liberated from a kind of linguistic hierarchy structure found in Sri Lankan society setting English at the top, Sinhalese next and Tamil at the bottom.(2)The CS functioning as “Addressee Specification\" reported in the previous work was identified in the investigation of these families. When speakers' mother tongue is Sinhalese and listeners' mother tongue is Tamil, switching to Tamil occurs so that listeners may clearly understand the speech.(3)The CS functioning as “Reiteration\" reported in the previous work was also identified in the investigation. This CS is used when speakers, whose mother tongue is Tamil, think that listeners do not understand their speech, switching to either English or Sinhalese occurs.(4)All family members use their own native languages when they call other members of family by intimate relations such as mother, father, son or daughter. Therefore, switching to their own native languages occurs when they are using other languages. This may be one of the common features found in speakers of Sinhalese as well as Tamil."}]},{"type":"Other","notation":[{"@value":"特集:第4回東方ユーラシア国際シンポジウム「ユーラシアの叙事詩と言語」"}]},{"type":"Other","notation":[{"@value":"欧文抄録:P.138-139"}]},{"type":"Other","notation":[{"@value":"1.Sri Lanka is an intricate nation where various languages, races and religions are co-existing.Sinhalese, Muslims and Tamils reside together with Burger, Malays and the indigenous people called “Veddah\". Sri Lankan people use three languages in their daily communication; Sinhala, English, and Tamil. Therefore, in order to examine the language situation in Sri Lanka it is imperative to analyze the cultural and socio-linguistic situations there.2.Code Switching (CS), which is often seen in various situations in Sri Lanka, is also expected to be used depending on the various circumstances such as speaker's life style and home environment, academic background and the social hierarchy. Furthermore, it is estimated that there will be differences in usage of CS between Tamil minority and Sinhala majority. English is also used quite often in Sri Lanka. The infiltration condition of English as well as its influence and necessity will be interesting themes to be examined.3.Thus, this paper aims at investigating cultural and socio-linguistic conditions and real situations of English usage including its degree of infiltration in Sri Lanka by throwing light on CS. To attain the above aims, natural conversations of two families consisting of Sinhalese native speakers and Tamil native speakers were recorded and CS found in their conversations was analyzed."}]},{"type":"Other","notation":[{"@value":"source:Journal of Chiba University Eurasian Society"}]}],"creator":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1070851497140700544","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@language":"ja","@value":"サジーワニー, ディサーナーヤカ"}]}],"publication":{"publicationIdentifier":[{"@type":"ISSN","@value":"21857148"},{"@type":"NDL_BIB_ID","@value":"000011031267"},{"@type":"LISSN","@value":"21857148"},{"@type":"NCID","@value":"AA11256001"}],"prism:publicationName":[{"@language":"ja","@value":"千葉大学ユーラシア言語文化論集"}],"dc:publisher":[{"@value":"千葉大学ユーラシア言語文化論講座"}],"prism:publicationDate":"2014-09-25","prism:volume":"16","prism:startingPage":"123","prism:endingPage":"139"},"url":[{"@id":"https://opac.ll.chiba-u.jp/da/curator/900117983/"},{"@id":"http://id.ndl.go.jp/bib/025829384"},{"@id":"https://ndlsearch.ndl.go.jp/books/R000000004-I025829384"}],"foaf:topic":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=%E5%A4%9A%E8%A8%80%E8%AA%9E%E8%A9%B1%E8%80%85","dc:title":"多言語話者"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=%E3%82%B9%E3%83%AA%E3%83%A9%E3%83%B3%E3%82%AB","dc:title":"スリランカ"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=%E3%82%B3%E3%83%BC%E3%83%89%E3%82%B9%E3%82%A4%E3%83%83%E3%83%81%E3%83%B3%E3%82%B0","dc:title":"コードスイッチング"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=%E5%AE%B6%E5%BA%AD%E3%81%A7%E3%81%AE%E8%AB%87%E8%A9%B1","dc:title":"家庭での談話"}],"dcterms:subject":[{"subjectScheme":"Other","notation":[{"@value":"多言語話者"}]},{"subjectScheme":"Other","notation":[{"@value":"スリランカ"}]},{"subjectScheme":"Other","notation":[{"@value":"コードスイッチング"}]},{"subjectScheme":"Other","notation":[{"@value":"家庭での談話"}]}],"dataSourceIdentifier":[{"@type":"IRDB","@value":"oai:irdb.nii.ac.jp:01450:0004994680"},{"@type":"NDL_SEARCH","@value":"oai:ndlsearch.ndl.go.jp:R000000004-I025829384"},{"@type":"CIA","@value":"120007054602"}]}
