Adherence ability of<jats:italic>S. mutans</jats:italic>was evaluated by microtiter plate assay; protease and gelatinase activities of<jats:italic>P. gingivalis</jats:italic>were examined by synthetic substrate hydrolysis and gelatin film spot assay, respectively. Coaggregation of<jats:italic>P. gingivalis</jats:italic>with<jats:italic>Fusobacterium nucleatum</jats:italic>was also examined. S-PRG eluate was found to suppress streptococcal adherence. S-PRG eluate inhibited the protease and gelatinase activities of<jats:italic>P. gingivalis</jats:italic>and the coaggregation between<jats:italic>P. gingivalis</jats:italic>and<jats:italic>F. nucleatum</jats:italic>. These results indicate that S-PRG eluate suppresses streptococcal adherence and inhibits the protease and coaggregation activities of<jats:italic>P. gingivalis</jats:italic>. These findings may prompt research into novel strategies for preventing caries and
