Therefore, a nationwide retrospective survey was conducted between 1980 and 1994 to investigate the clinical manifestations of SLE in Japanese children and adolescents. Questionnaires were sent to 340 hospitals. Of 405 patients reported by 176 hospitals, 373 patients, diagnosed by the criteria established by the Pediatric Study Group of the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare in 1985, were enrolled in the study. Forty‐nine of the 354 patients (13.8%) had relatives with a connective tissue disease within the third degree of consanguinity. The frequent manifestations in 373 patients were the presence of antinuclear antibody (98.9%), immunologic disorders (93.0%), hypocomplementemia (87.1%), malar rash (79.6%) and fever (74.0%). Lupus nephritis was present in 148 of the 309 patients (47.9%) at their first visit to a clinic, and 261 of the 373 patients (70.0%) developed renal involvement during the observation period. Of 370 patients, 92 patients (24.9%) exhibited central nervous system lupus. Of 368 patients, 192 patients (52.2%) were treated by methylprednisolone pulse therapy and 148 patients (40.2%) received immunosuppressants in combination with steroid therapy at some stage during the observation period. Survival rate at 5 years from onset was 95.9%. Management of infection, coagulopathies, and central nervous system involvement is essential to improve the prognosis of SLE in Japanese children and adolescents.</jats:p>"}]}],"creator":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1380011145933859073","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"SYUJI TAKEI"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1380011145933859081","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"NOBUAKI MAENO"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1380011145933859082","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"MASAHIKO SHIGEMORI"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1380011145933859072","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"HIROYUKI IMANAKA"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1380011145933859077","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"HIROSUMI MORI"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1380011145933859074","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"YASUHITO NEROME"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1380011145933859078","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"SYOKO KANEKURA"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1380011145933859075","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"TOMOKO TAKEZAKI"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1380011145933859076","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"MASASHI HOKONOHARA"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1380011145933859079","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"KOICHIRO MIYATA"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1380011145933859080","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"SATOSHI FUJIKAWA"}]}],"publication":{"publicationIdentifier":[{"@type":"PISSN","@value":"13288067"},{"@type":"EISSN","@value":"1442200X"},{"@type":"PISSN","@value":"http://id.crossref.org/issn/03745600"}],"prism:publicationName":[{"@value":"Pediatrics International"}],"dc:publisher":[{"@value":"Wiley"}],"prism:publicationDate":"1997-04","prism:volume":"39","prism:number":"2","prism:startingPage":"250","prism:endingPage":"256"},"reviewed":"false","dc:rights":["http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/termsAndConditions#vor"],"url":[{"@id":"https://api.wiley.com/onlinelibrary/tdm/v1/articles/10.1111%2Fj.1442-200X.1997.tb03594.x"},{"@id":"https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/j.1442-200X.1997.tb03594.x"}],"createdAt":"2011-01-19","modifiedAt":"2023-10-28","foaf:topic":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Male","dc:title":"Male"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Adolescent","dc:title":"Adolescent"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Health%20Surveys","dc:title":"Health Surveys"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Japan","dc:title":"Japan"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Surveys%20and%20Questionnaires","dc:title":"Surveys and Questionnaires"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Humans","dc:title":"Humans"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Lupus%20Erythematosus,%20Systemic","dc:title":"Lupus Erythematosus, Systemic"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Female","dc:title":"Female"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Child","dc:title":"Child"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Retrospective%20Studies","dc:title":"Retrospective Studies"}],"relatedProduct":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1390001204648994432","@type":"Article","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@language":"en","@value":"Sjoegren's syndrome (SS) in childhood: is it essentially different from adult SS?"},{"@language":"ja","@value":"小児シェーグレン症候群ＳＳの病態と臨床像―成人ＳＳとの異同を中心に"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1390011771518422656","@type":"Article","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@language":"en","@value":"Current Status of Pediatric Rheumatic Disease Care in Japan"},{"@language":"ja","@value":"日本における小児リウマチ診療の現況"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1390282679315309824","@type":"Article","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@language":"ja","@value":"小児SLE とループス腎炎―診断と治療戦略―"},{"@language":"en","@value":"Childhood SLE and lupus nephritis"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/2050588892099516416","@type":"Article","resourceType":"学術雑誌論文(journal article)","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@value":"Treatment of pediatric-onset lupus nephritis : a proposal of optimal therapy"}]}],"dataSourceIdentifier":[{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1111/j.1442-200x.1997.tb03594.x"},{"@type":"OPENAIRE","@value":"doi_dedup___::a429fad1328e204106963307ec872158"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.2177/jsci.33.8_references_DOI_UTR8JrHw8mzYf6NmfemDqLhCqyx"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.3165/jjpn.rv.2015.0005_references_DOI_UTR8JrHw8mzYf6NmfemDqLhCqyx"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1007/s10157-017-1381-1_references_DOI_UTR8JrHw8mzYf6NmfemDqLhCqyx"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1272/manms.18.274_references_DOI_UTR8JrHw8mzYf6NmfemDqLhCqyx"}]}
