Although this phenomenology is well known, no theory has explained why insight feels the way it does. We propose a fluency account of insight: Positive affect and perceived truth and confidence in one’s own judgment are triggered by the sudden appearance of the solution for a problem and the concomitant surprising fluency gain in processing. We relate earlier evidence on insight concerning the impact of sudden fluency variations on positive affect and perceived truth and confidence. </jats:p>"}]}],"creator":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1380013171105259392","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"Sascha Topolinski"}],"jpcoar:affiliationName":[{"@value":"University of Würzburg"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1380013171105259393","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"Rolf Reber"}],"jpcoar:affiliationName":[{"@value":"University of Bergen"}]}],"publication":{"publicationIdentifier":[{"@type":"PISSN","@value":"09637214"},{"@type":"EISSN","@value":"14678721"}],"prism:publicationName":[{"@value":"Current Directions in Psychological Science"}],"dc:publisher":[{"@value":"SAGE Publications"}],"prism:publicationDate":"2010-12","prism:volume":"19","prism:number":"6","prism:startingPage":"402","prism:endingPage":"405"},"reviewed":"false","dc:rights":["https://journals.sagepub.com/page/policies/text-and-data-mining-license"],"url":[{"@id":"https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1177/0963721410388803"},{"@id":"https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full-xml/10.1177/0963721410388803"}],"createdAt":"2010-12-15","modifiedAt":"2025-03-04","relatedProduct":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1050013706702961792","@type":"Article","resourceType":"学術雑誌論文(journal article)","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@language":"en","@value":"Exploring the effects of risk-taking, exploitation, and exploration on divergent thinking under group dynamics"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1050856995321968512","@type":"Article","resourceType":"学術雑誌論文(journal article)","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@language":"en","@value":"Mood and Risk-Taking as Momentum for Creativity"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1050866882754837376","@type":"Article","resourceType":"学術雑誌論文(journal article)","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@language":"en","@value":"Activating STEAM Learning in Young Children Through Aha-Experiences: Supporting Creativity and Aesthetic Sensitivity in Infants and Toddlers"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1360298755627889280","@type":"Article","resourceType":"学術雑誌論文(journal article)","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@value":"A new category of “Aha!” driven by touch: A grip sensation into the directional seam on a baseball"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1390015753041058560","@type":"Article","resourceType":"学術雑誌論文(journal article)","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@language":"en","@value":"A review of the theoretical models of processing fluency"},{"@language":"ja","@value":"処理流暢性を巡る議論の変遷"}]}],"dataSourceIdentifier":[{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1177/0963721410388803"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.3389/fpsyg.2020.610562_references_DOI_JI2xSH6jO8fTrADqO93o6Du7lLm"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.4992/jjpsy.94.22401_references_DOI_JI2xSH6jO8fTrADqO93o6Du7lLm"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1177/20416695231175598_references_DOI_JI2xSH6jO8fTrADqO93o6Du7lLm"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.3389/fpsyg.2022.1063525_references_DOI_JI2xSH6jO8fTrADqO93o6Du7lLm"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.3390/educsci15020117_references_DOI_JI2xSH6jO8fTrADqO93o6Du7lLm"}]}
