This approach relies on the similarity of the \\textit{sense} and \\textit{context} embeddings computed by a pre-trained language model. We propose a semantic specialization for WSD where contextualized embeddings are adapted to the WSD task using solely lexical knowledge. The key idea is, for a given sense, to bring semantically related senses and contexts closer and send different/unrelated senses farther away. We realize this idea as the joint optimization of the Attract-Repel objective for sense pairs and the self-training objective for context-sense pairs while controlling deviations from the original embeddings. The proposed method outperformed previous studies that adapt contextualized embeddings. It achieved state-of-the-art performance on knowledge-based WSD when combined with the reranking heuristic that uses the sense inventory. We found that the similarity characteristics of specialized embeddings conform to the key idea. We also found that the (dis)similarity of embeddings between the related/different/unrelated senses correlates well with the performance of WSD."}]},{"notation":[{"@value":"Accepted by EACL 2023. 14 pages"}]}],"creator":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1380298340973153152","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"Sakae Mizuki"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1380298340973153153","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"Naoaki Okazaki"}]}],"publication":{"prism:publicationName":[{"@value":"Proceedings of the 17th Conference of the European Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics"}],"dc:publisher":[{"@value":"Association for Computational Linguistics"}],"prism:publicationDate":"2023","prism:startingPage":"3457","prism:endingPage":"3470"},"reviewed":"false","dcterms:accessRights":"http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2","createdAt":"2023-09-09","modifiedAt":"2023-09-09","foaf:topic":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=FOS:%20Computer%20and%20information%20sciences","dc:title":"FOS: Computer and information sciences"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Computer%20Science%20-%20Computation%20and%20Language","dc:title":"Computer Science - Computation and Language"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Computation%20and%20Language%20(cs.CL)","dc:title":"Computation and Language (cs.CL)"}],"relatedProduct":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1390015984923662720","@type":"Article","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@language":"en","@value":"Behind the Scenes of “Semantic Specilization for Knowledge-based Word Sense Disambiguation”"},{"@language":"ja","@value":"「埋め込み表現の意味適応による知識ベース語義曖昧性解消」ができるまで"}]}],"dataSourceIdentifier":[{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.18653/v1/2023.eacl-main.251"},{"@type":"OPENAIRE","@value":"doi_dedup___::a82e58d2e7b751056f1b12062628ae29"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.5715/jnlp.30.1105_references_DOI_ApkJrnikpbzrp01ImAr6rQNXvKK"}]}
