<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Polycrystalline samples of LnY<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>TaO<jats:sub>7</jats:sub> (Ln: La—Dy) are prepared by repeated firing of stoichiometric amounts of Ln<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3</jats:sub> (Pr<jats:sub>6</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>11</jats:sub> and Tb<jats:sub>4</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>7</jats:sub>), Y<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>, and Ta<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>5</jats:sub> in air (1400—1600 °C, 12 h).</jats:p>
