However, it is difficult to inject current in such small-scale devices without severely degrading their optical properties. We demonstrate the successful fabrication of an electrically injected microdisk based on Eu-doped GaN, in which an SiO<jats:sub>2</jats:sub> spacer is used to prevent the interaction of the metal contact with the optical resonances.
