The radiated wave is divided into a large number of elementary plane waves, for each of which the propagation in the horizontally stratified model consisting of the ionosphere, the free space and the ground is calculated by the full wave technique. Then the plane waves are summed up to give a horizontal distribution of the radiated wave intensities at any altitudes. This technique is applied to investigate the propagation characteristics of radiation from a polar electrojet (PEJ) antenna modulated at an ELF/VLF frequency, which was created by the Tromsø heating facility. Comparison between the results of experiments and the calculation is given in the companion paper [<jats:italic>Kimura et al.,</jats:italic> this issue]. We discuss several propagation characteristics, such as the frequency dependence of the radiated wave propagation up to the upper ionosphere and down to the ground. Under the conditions that the frequency is 2.5 kHz and the ionospheric dc electric field is 5 mV/m, the calculated results are roughly consistent with the experimental results and the radiation efficiency of the PEJ antenna is found to be extremely small, 2.5×10<jats:sup>−6</jats:sup> upward and 3×10<jats:sup>−8</jats:sup> downward.</jats:p>"}]}],"creator":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1381981470546152707","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"Satoshi Yagitani"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1381981470546152706","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"Isamu Nagano"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1381981470546152704","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"Kazutoshi Miyamura"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1381981470546152705","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"Iwane Kimura"}]}],"publication":{"publicationIdentifier":[{"@type":"PISSN","@value":"00486604"},{"@type":"EISSN","@value":"1944799X"}],"prism:publicationName":[{"@value":"Radio Science"}],"dc:publisher":[{"@value":"American Geophysical Union (AGU)"}],"prism:publicationDate":"1994-01","prism:volume":"29","prism:number":"1","prism:startingPage":"39","prism:endingPage":"54"},"reviewed":"false","dc:rights":["http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/termsAndConditions#vor"],"url":[{"@id":"https://api.wiley.com/onlinelibrary/tdm/v1/articles/10.1029%2F93RS01728"},{"@id":"https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1029/93RS01728"}],"createdAt":"2004-02-04","modifiedAt":"2023-09-22","relatedProduct":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1050282810812364928","@type":"Article","resourceType":"学術雑誌論文(journal article)","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@language":"en","@value":"Development of an ASIC preamplifier for electromagnetic sensor probes for monitoring space electromagnetic environments"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1360004235293849472","@type":"Article","resourceType":"学術雑誌論文(journal article)","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@value":"Numerical analysis of spherical wave absorption by a thin metamaterial absorber"}]}],"dataSourceIdentifier":[{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1029/93rs01728"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1186/s40623-016-0470-9_references_DOI_4xuXAKBAAjt4bcImfjxqKvmEcUi"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1109/isanp.2014.7026602_references_DOI_4xuXAKBAAjt4bcImfjxqKvmEcUi"}]}
