In the present work, we have performed ultrafast time-resolved spectroscopy of octopus rhodopsin using a sub-5-fs pulse laser. In comparison with our previous study on bacteriorhodopsin, we found that octopus rhodopsin follows similar dynamics after photoexcitation but with different time constants. Spectrogram analysis showed that a C═N stretching mode appeared directly after photoexcitation. After reaching the conical intersection region at 80 fs, the overlapping hydrogen out-of-plane and in-plane C═C-H modes emerged as distinct peaks at ~200 fs, finishing a rapid relaxation along the coordinate related with these modes. The intensities of these peaks and a C═C stretching mode were found to be modulated at a period of ∼500 fs, reflecting torsional motion around the C═C double bond before thermalization with the distribution of structural variations in the all-trans structure in configuration space."}]}],"creator":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1382262946437567488","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"Atsushi Yabushita"}],"jpcoar:affiliationName":[{"@value":"Department of Electrophysics, National Chiao-Tung University, Hsinchu 300, Taiwan"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1030003658471362432","@type":"Researcher","personIdentifier":[{"@type":"KAKEN_RESEARCHERS","@value":"60087509"},{"@type":"NRID","@value":"1000060087509"},{"@type":"NRID","@value":"9000017378494"},{"@type":"NRID","@value":"9000017378498"},{"@type":"NRID","@value":"9000017378560"},{"@type":"NRID","@value":"9000253031527"},{"@type":"NRID","@value":"9000402025896"},{"@type":"NRID","@value":"9000256896587"},{"@type":"RESEARCHMAP","@value":"https://researchmap.jp/read0046387"}],"foaf:name":[{"@value":"Takayoshi Kobayashi"}],"jpcoar:affiliationName":[{"@value":"Department of Electrophysics, National Chiao-Tung University, Hsinchu 300, Taiwan"},{"@value":"CREST, Japan Science and Technology Agency, 4-1-8, Honcho, Kawaguchi, Saitama 332-0012, Japan"},{"@value":"Department of Applied Physics and Chemistry and Institute for Laser Science, University of Electro-Communications, 1-5-1, Chofugaoka, Chofu, Tokyo 182-8585, Japan"},{"@value":"Institute of Laser Engineering, Osaka University, 2-6 Yamada-oka, Suita, Osaka 565-0971, Japan"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1382262946437567490","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"Motoyuki Tsuda"}],"jpcoar:affiliationName":[{"@value":"Kagawa School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Tokushima Bunri University, 1314-1 Shido, Sanuki, Kagawa 769-2193, Japan"}]}],"publication":{"publicationIdentifier":[{"@type":"PISSN","@value":"15206106"},{"@type":"EISSN","@value":"15205207"}],"prism:publicationName":[{"@value":"The Journal of Physical Chemistry B"}],"dc:publisher":[{"@value":"American Chemical Society (ACS)"}],"prism:publicationDate":"2012-02-06","prism:volume":"116","prism:number":"6","prism:startingPage":"1920","prism:endingPage":"1926"},"reviewed":"false","dcterms:accessRights":"http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2","url":[{"@id":"https://pubs.acs.org/doi/pdf/10.1021/jp209356s"}],"createdAt":"2012-01-17","modifiedAt":"2025-03-18","foaf:topic":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Rhodopsin","dc:title":"Rhodopsin"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Time%20Factors","dc:title":"Time Factors"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Lasers","dc:title":"Lasers"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Isomerism","dc:title":"Isomerism"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Spectrophotometry","dc:title":"Spectrophotometry"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Retinaldehyde","dc:title":"Retinaldehyde"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Algorithms","dc:title":"Algorithms"}],"relatedProduct":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1360588380162680320","@type":"Article","resourceType":"学術雑誌論文(journal article)","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@value":"In-silico predicted mouse melanopsins with blue spectral shifts deliver efficient subcellular signaling"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1390569457941388032","@type":"Article","resourceType":"学術雑誌論文(journal article)","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@language":"en","@value":"Advanced time-resolved absorption spectroscopy with an ultrashort visible/near IR laser and a multi-channel lock-in detector"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1521980704682237440","@type":"Article","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@value":"Award Accounts : The Chemical Society of Japan Award for Young Chemists for 2014 : Development of Novel Reactions Induced by Coherent Molecular Vibrational Excitation and Direct Observation of Molecular Structural Change during \"Thermal\" Reactions"}]}],"dataSourceIdentifier":[{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1021/jp209356s"},{"@type":"OPENAIRE","@value":"doi_dedup___::cfeab44c5de241d36e9325d4ae48eaac"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.2183/pjab.97.014_references_DOI_J1cwUcJ4YITgq4fGR2iixHCDGOT"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1186/s12964-024-01753-0_references_DOI_J1cwUcJ4YITgq4fGR2iixHCDGOT"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1246/bcsj.20150242_references_DOI_J1cwUcJ4YITgq4fGR2iixHCDGOT"}]}
