Tonomura and Sasaki1 found that furylfuramide induces chromosome aberrations in cultured human lymphocytes and strong mutagenicity was found by Kada2 and Kondo and Ichikawa-Ryo3 with E. coil. Miyaji4 had reported, however, that neither tumour nor malformation was induced by furylfuramide in rats and mice, although Morris et al.5 reported that some other nitrofuran derivatives induced tumours in rats. Ames and his associates6,7 have shown that almost 90% of chemical carcinogens so far tested are mutagenic in their specified tester strains of Salmonella typhimurium. Thus, furylfuramide has been an important exception to the presumptive rule that a carcinogen is, in principle, a mutagen. As fish sausage has been favoured so much by young Japanese children, it was necessary to reopen the question of the carcinogenicity of furylfuramide in view of its strong mutagenicity. I report here that furylfuramide induces low but significant yields of tumours in mice when administered at the foetal or young stage."}]}],"creator":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1382825893859320064","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"TAISEI NOMURA"}]}],"publication":{"publicationIdentifier":[{"@type":"PISSN","@value":"00280836"},{"@type":"EISSN","@value":"14764687"}],"prism:publicationName":[{"@value":"Nature"}],"dc:publisher":[{"@value":"Springer Science and Business Media LLC"}],"prism:publicationDate":"1975-12","prism:volume":"258","prism:number":"5536","prism:startingPage":"610","prism:endingPage":"611"},"reviewed":"false","dc:rights":["http://www.springer.com/tdm"],"url":[{"@id":"http://www.nature.com/articles/258610a0"},{"@id":"http://www.nature.com/articles/258610a0.pdf"}],"createdAt":"2005-08-03","modifiedAt":"2023-05-17","foaf:topic":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Mice,%20Inbred%20ICR","dc:title":"Mice, Inbred ICR"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Lung%20Neoplasms","dc:title":"Lung Neoplasms"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Nitrofurans","dc:title":"Nitrofurans"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Adenocarcinoma,%20Papillary","dc:title":"Adenocarcinoma, Papillary"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Mice","dc:title":"Mice"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Fetus","dc:title":"Fetus"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Animals,%20Newborn","dc:title":"Animals, Newborn"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Pregnancy","dc:title":"Pregnancy"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Carcinogens","dc:title":"Carcinogens"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Animals","dc:title":"Animals"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Female","dc:title":"Female"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Food%20Additives","dc:title":"Food Additives"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=Mutagens","dc:title":"Mutagens"}],"relatedProduct":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/2050870367073278336","@type":"Article","resourceType":"学術雑誌論文(journal article)","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@value":"Effect of episomally encoded DNA polymerases on chemically induced mutagenesis at the hisG46 target in Ames test"}]}],"dataSourceIdentifier":[{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1038/258610a0"},{"@type":"OPENAIRE","@value":"doi_dedup___::8f6b4045aa6686e025f45b7a57891f54"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1186/s41021-020-00154-2_references_DOI_Co6R6AUtwHv0GMLojQa7sQha2kS"}]}
