Difference second derivative spectra of the modern minus antique samples were analysed for the absorption peaks due to the main chemical components of washi paper, i.e. cellulose and hemicellulose. The absorption peaks were decreased for amorphous and semi-crystalline regions of cellulose and for hemicellulose, showing the results consistent with conventional, destructive sugar analysis. It is concluded that near infrared spectroscopy is a useful technique for the non-destructive monitoring of the degradation of the chemical properties of washi paper. </jats:p>"}]}],"creator":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1383670319033962240","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"Hitoshi Yonenobu"}],"jpcoar:affiliationName":[{"@value":"College of Education, Naruto University of Education, Naruto 772-8502, Japan"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1383670319033962242","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"Satoru Tsuchikawa"}],"jpcoar:affiliationName":[{"@value":"Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences, Nagoya University, Nagoya 464-8601, Japan"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1383670319033962241","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"Hirotaka Oda"}],"jpcoar:affiliationName":[{"@value":"Centre for Chronological Research, Nagoya University, Nagoya 464-8601, Japan"}]}],"publication":{"publicationIdentifier":[{"@type":"PISSN","@value":"09670335"},{"@type":"EISSN","@value":"17516552"}],"prism:publicationName":[{"@value":"Journal of Near Infrared Spectroscopy"}],"dc:publisher":[{"@value":"SAGE Publications"}],"prism:publicationDate":"2003-10","prism:volume":"11","prism:number":"5","prism:startingPage":"407","prism:endingPage":"411"},"reviewed":"false","dc:rights":["https://journals.sagepub.com/page/policies/text-and-data-mining-license"],"url":[{"@id":"https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1255/jnirs.392"}],"createdAt":"2009-05-18","modifiedAt":"2025-03-10","relatedProduct":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1360285707526727296","@type":"Article","resourceType":"学術雑誌論文(journal article)","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@value":"Near-infrared spectroscopic analysis of aging degradation in antique washi paper using a deuterium exchange method"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1360567182177360512","@type":"Article","resourceType":"学術雑誌論文(journal article)","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@value":"Efficient preparation of carbon papers by pyrolysis of iodine-treated Japanese paper"}]}],"dataSourceIdentifier":[{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1255/jnirs.392"},{"@type":"OPENAIRE","@value":"doi_dedup___::83d11cf6aad98af6825fa09439227934"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1016/j.jaap.2011.12.017_references_DOI_ItNYaO6MFdlE6Ja7RRI7c8vwozJ"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1016/j.vibspec.2008.11.001_references_DOI_ItNYaO6MFdlE6Ja7RRI7c8vwozJ"}]}
