Radiotherapy is generally used for those patients with extensive disease or those who are unfit for surgery. In spite of this, the 1-year survival of 18 per cent is similar to that for surgically treated patients and there is no equivalent operative mortality. The 5-year survival is 6 per cent compared with that for surgery of 4 per cent. There are no results available to suggest what would happen if a patient with a localized tumour, technically suitable for surgical resection, were treated instead by radiotherapy.</jats:p>"}]}],"creator":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1384233270926879360","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"Richard Earlam"}],"jpcoar:affiliationName":[{"@value":"The London Hospital , Whitechapel, London E1"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1384233270926879361","@type":"Researcher","foaf:name":[{"@value":"J R Cunha-Melo"}],"jpcoar:affiliationName":[{"@value":"The London Hospital , Whitechapel, London E1"}]}],"publication":{"publicationIdentifier":[{"@type":"PISSN","@value":"00071323"},{"@type":"EISSN","@value":"13652168"}],"prism:publicationName":[{"@value":"Journal of British Surgery"}],"dc:publisher":[{"@value":"Oxford University Press (OUP)"}],"prism:publicationDate":"1980-07-01","prism:volume":"67","prism:number":"7","prism:startingPage":"457","prism:endingPage":"461"},"reviewed":"false","dc:rights":["https://academic.oup.com/journals/pages/open_access/funder_policies/chorus/standard_publication_model"],"url":[{"@id":"https://api.wiley.com/onlinelibrary/tdm/v1/articles/10.1002%2Fbjs.1800670702"},{"@id":"https://academic.oup.com/bjs/article-pdf/67/7/457/59372094/bjs1800670702.pdf"}],"createdAt":"2007-03-02","modifiedAt":"2024-09-27","relatedProduct":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1360283690306290816","@type":"Article","resourceType":"学術雑誌論文(journal article)","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@value":"Gender differences in prognosis after esophagectomy for esophageal cancer"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1360283695770013312","@type":"Article","resourceType":"学術雑誌論文(journal article)","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@value":"Clinical significance of GLUT-1 expression in patients with esophageal cancer treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1360285706236460672","@type":"Article","resourceType":"学術雑誌論文(journal article)","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@value":"Clinical significance of salvage esophagectomy for remnant or recurrent cancer following definitive chemoradiotherapy"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1390001204244212480","@type":"Article","resourceType":"学術雑誌論文(journal article)","relationType":["isReferencedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@language":"en","@value":"Treatment results of two-stage operation for the patients with esophageal cancer concomitant with liver dysfunction"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1570009750051160064","@type":"Article","relationType":["isCitedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@language":"en","@value":"Phase II study of combination therapy of radiation and local administration of OK-432 for esophageal cancer"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1573105975574189056","@type":"Article","relationType":["isCitedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@language":"en","@value":"Clinical significance of salvage esophagectomy for remnant or recurrent cancer following definitive chemoradiotherapy"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1574231874701196928","@type":"Article","relationType":["isCitedBy"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@language":"en","@value":"Combined Chemotherapy with Twice-Daily Radiation Therapy for Inoperable Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Thoracic Esophagus"}]}],"dataSourceIdentifier":[{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1002/bjs.1800670702"},{"@type":"CIA","@value":"30026056444"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1007/s00595-013-0573-x_references_DOI_DbZI2f89SFbama8RanpYbXOtOBo"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.1007/s00535-011-0448-0_references_DOI_DbZI2f89SFbama8RanpYbXOtOBo"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.2152/jmi.62.149_references_DOI_DbZI2f89SFbama8RanpYbXOtOBo"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.3892/ol.2010.199_references_DOI_DbZI2f89SFbama8RanpYbXOtOBo"}]}
