Description

A 62-year-old woman was admitted to hospital because of a pontine hemorrhage. Splenic artery aneurysms with thrombi (diameters: 38mm and 52mm) were observed during an abdominal CT scan. Petechiae were also found on her upper and Iower extremities. A laboratory examination revealed thrombocytopenia and coagulation/fibrinolysis abnormalities. Anti-coagulation treatment was performed prior to surgery, and no severe hemorrhagic diathesis was encountered during the operation. The patient's bleeding tendency and coagulation/fibrinolysis abnormalities improved after the surgery. We presumed that the cause of the abnormalities was consumption coagulopathy associated with multiple splenic artery aneurysms.
