First, various concepts of ethnicity or ethnic group are examined, and the objective-subjective definition is adopted, which refers to the share of cultural, racial characteristics and descent, and/ or to the subjectively shared belief of those common attributions.<BR>     Second, diversification of situations and practices of ethnic phenomena is argued: cultural deprivation or politico-economic deprivation, ethnic identify or politico-economic interest, occupying territorial homeland or not, and more multicultural or less.<BR>     Finally, impact and significance of ethnic phenomena on social system is discussed after the conceptual clarification of modern nation-state. On the one hand, ethnic movements induce modification of the individualistic and achievement principle. Ethnic groups tend to deny macro-nationalism. However, on the other hand, affirmative action is not only coming out from modern liberalism but also functioning as a complement for achievement principle.
