Description
Acoustic emission (AE) is the elastic stress wave caused by the deformation and fracture of a material. By measuring the AE signals with an AE sensor, it is possible to perform the in-process monitoring of machining state. In this study, AE signals generated in cutting experiments and wear experiments were measured in order to examine the relationship between AE signals and cutting phenomena. This paper discusses the characteristics of AE signals (e.g. amplitude and AE frequency) and the relationships between the phenomena and the AE signals obtained under each phenomenon. Moreover, the relationship with the AE signals measured during actual machining process is described.
