Description
We have synthesized both racemic and enantiomerically enriched all-organic paramagnetic nitroxide radical (NR) liquid crystalline (LC) compounds. They are the first room-temperature LC compounds which form intermolecular hydrogen bonds between nitroxide (NO) group and hydroxy (OH) group. We investigated the phase transition behaviors of the NR compounds with or without OH group, and found out that the intermolecular hydrogen bonds contribute to the stability of the LC phases.
