Description

A 12-year-old, intact male, mixed breed cat presented with marked swelling, alopecia, and hyperpigmentation on the face, erosion on the lips, swelling and alopecia on the extremity of the hind limbs, scales on the pads, and alopecia and hyperpigmentation on the tail. Nodular infiltration of macrophages around hair follicles, and mild mucin deposition around hair follicles were revealed by Alcian blue staining of histopathological samples from the face and forelimb. A diagnosis of degenerative mucinotic mural folliculitis was made from the clinical and histopathological findings. The cat was treated with triamcinolone acetonide at a dose of 0.7 mg kg–1 and cyclosporine 8 mg kg–1 once a day orally, but the cat showed anorexia and weight loss 4 weeks later. The treatments were discontinued and the cat passed away on the next day.
