This paper focused on the medical and nursing care provided in Japan for the hospitalized patients with different cultural backgrounds, aiming to analyze the cases raised as problematic by nurses and to present definitions of the problems as well as proposals for the nursing care approaches. In this context, Leininger's cultural care theory, which highlights different cultural backgrounds, was applied to address the issue. As a result, the following three problems were manifested; 1) based on nurses' perceptions; 2) related to patient's understanding and recognition; and 3) arising in the patient-nurse relationship. The paper then proposed the measures for the respective problems.
