Description

Specimens having an electrodeposited tin layer of tin 100μm in thickness onto the surface of pure-Fe and S15CK were heat treated at temperatures of 453-493K, below the melting point of tin. The vertical cross sections of the heat treated specimens were analysed by EPMA, showing that the growth-rate of the Fe-Sn interdiffusion layer on the S15CK matrix was faster than on pure-Fe. Fe-Sn interdiffusion coefficients for the S15CK matrix were larger than for pure Fe 453K and 473K, typically (4.8×10-9cm2/ks) about two times larger at 473K. The activation energy for the formation of the Fe-Sn interdiffusion layer was found to be 22.3kJ/mol at treatment times below 921.6ks at 453-493K for specimens of pure Fe matrix.
