Description

Esters of N-protected amino acids and an N-protected peptide were reduced selectively to the corresponding alcohols in high yields using lesser amounts of sodium borohydride than does the conventional method by the slow addition of methanol to the mixture of ester and NaBH4 in t-butyl alcohol or tetrahydrofuran at 50°C.
