This paper will, therefore, describe new, repreoducible methods for the determination of nitrogen in chilled cast iron. They are the inert gas fusion and the chemical distillation methods. The most suitable sample for obtaining almost the same results with regard to ordinary cast iron by both methods was found to be a thin plate chilled by a copper mold.
