(肝転移群35例, 対照群35例) を対象に, 癌組織と血清中の血管内皮増殖因子 (VEGF) および癌組織の微小血管量を測定し, 肝転移との関連性ならびに予後予測因子としての有用性を検討した。その結果肝転移群は対照群に比べて組織中VEGFは有意に高発現であり, 血清VEGF濃度も有意に高値を示し, その関連性が示唆された。組織中での発現が強い症例では血清濃度も高い傾向を認めた。予後との関連性に関して, 血清VEGF濃度の高値群は低値群に比べて生存率は有意に低下し, さらに多変量解析の結果から血清VEGF濃度は独立した予後因子と判定された。一方, 組織VEGF発現度では生存率に差が認められなかった。また微小血管量は肝転移群, 対照群で差を認めず, VEGF発現度との相関もみられず, 生存率とも関連しなかった。大腸癌予後予測因子として,
