Naturally occurring differences in the number of sea cucumber, Stihopus japonicas juveniles attaching to polycarbonate collectors were used to examine the effects of rearing density on growth during artificial seed production.<BR>A negative correlation was observed between growth rate and density. The coefficient of variation and the skewness of distribution of body length were larger under high density conditions. In contrast, the distribution of body length of the animals was closer to normal under low density. It is suggested that control of density in the collectors is effective to improve the performance in seed production of juvenile sea cucumber.
