Isolates from this patient were analyzed genotypically for emergent substitutions in HBV reverse transcriptase (RT). After 135 weeks of lamivudine therapy, patient received 0.5 mg of ETV for 52 weeks followed by 1.0 mg of ETV continuously. Viral rebound occurred at 84 weeks after ETV was started. The lamivudine RT substitutions rtH55R, rtL180M and rtM204V were present at study entry, and the additional substitutions rtS202G and rtL269I emerged during ETV
