Among these cases, 1,355 patients were diagnosed as having anal fissure. The specific breakdown of the three major anal diseases of these 5,447 new patients was as follows: internal and external hemorrhoids 62.8% (male 55.6; female 44.4); anal fissure 24.9% (male 47.6; female 52.4); and anal fistula 6.5% (male 89.9; female 10.1). Moreover, 16.7% of the internal and external hemorrhoid cases, 8.8% of the anal fissure cases, and 73.6% of the anal fistula cases underwent surgery. Compared to the internal and external hemorrhoid and anal fissure groups, the number of anal fistula cases that required surgery was significantly higher. The number of bowel movements (per day) and fecal consistency were also examined.
