We have esrlier reported immunological findings in regard to MCLS and possible role of mite antigen in this disease. In a recent study, we examined in vitro lymphocyte response to mite antigen(50μg/ml), PHA-P(20μg/ml) and PPD (2.5μg/ml) in MCLS. The results were as follows: 1) Lymphocyte response to mite antigen in MCLS patients was significantly higher than in controls (p<0.01). 2) IgE RAST and skin test reaction to mite antigen were not related to lymphocyte response in MCLS. 3) Lymphocytes of male patients had higher response to mite antigen than those of female. 4) Lymphocyte response to PHA-P was lower in MCLS patients than in controls. 5) There was no significant difference in lymphocyte response to PPD of MCLS patients and controls. These results suggest mite antigen may play an important role in MCLS. We do not know, however, which subpopulation of lymphocytes is stimulated by mite antigen, whether lymphocyte response to mite antigen is the same at every stage of MCLS or not, and the nature of the lymphocyte response to mitogens in healthy infancy.
