An analytical method using a liquid chromatograph-mass spectrometer equipped with atmospheric pressure chemical ionization interface (LC-APCI/MS) was developed for 22 pesticides in water. Water samples were extracted by solid phase adsorbents (PS-2 cartridge) using auto-concentrators. The pesticides were eluted from the cartridges and determined using LC-APCI/MS. The recoveries of 22 pesticides fortified at 10μg/l or 30μg/l levels were ranged from 81 to 103% (pure water) and from 71 to 127% (river water) on the average except for etofenprox and the limits of detection in water were 0.02 to 0.3μg/l. In general, polar or thermal labile pesticides such as asulam, benzimidazole, trichlorfon and sulfonylureas were necessary to be analyzed by gas chromatographic method after derivertization. This LC-APCI/MS method is simple and convenient to determine trace level quantitation of pesticide residues in water. In addition, the data from LC/MS are considered to be accurate because of MS selective determination.
