However, in the Pramāṇaviniścaya, second chapter (PVin 2), there is a striking discourse in this regard, that is, the discourse about the final moment of an arhat’s mind. It is questioned there whether the final moment has causal efficacy. In the course of this discussion Dharmakīrti reveals that knowing each and every dharma is a prerequisite for the Buddha’s knowledge of what is to be done and what is not to be done, i.e., the four noble truths. This seems to contradict his previous position in PV 2. In this paper, I concentrate on examining this argument in PVin 2. I argue that it is possible to think Dharmakīrti’s real intention is here, not in PV 2. And, it appears that the origin of the notion of sarvasarvajña, i.e., the so-called “full-blown omniscience,” developed in the tradition following Dharmakīrti, is also here.
"}],"abstractLicenseFlag":"disallow"}],"creator":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1420001326232012928","@type":"Researcher","personIdentifier":[{"@type":"KAKEN_RESEARCHERS","@value":"40709135"},{"@type":"NRID","@value":"1000040709135"},{"@type":"CINII_AUTHOR_ID","@value":"DB00076247"},{"@type":"URI","@value":"https://ci.nii.ac.jp/author/DB00076247#entity"},{"@type":"URI","@value":"https://viaf.org/viaf/NII%7CDB00076247"},{"@type":"NRID","@value":"9000404346749"},{"@type":"NRID","@value":"9000004311462"},{"@type":"NRID","@value":"9000412056084"},{"@type":"NRID","@value":"9000380131194"},{"@type":"NRID","@value":"9000254385953"},{"@type":"NRID","@value":"9000409976697"},{"@type":"NRID","@value":"9000409009674"},{"@type":"RESEARCHMAP","@value":"https://researchmap.jp/masamichi-sakai"}],"foaf:name":[{"@language":"ja","@value":"酒井 真道"},{"@language":"en","@value":"SAKAI Masamichi"}],"jpcoar:affiliationName":[{"@language":"ja","@value":"関西大学"}]}],"publication":{"publicationIdentifier":[{"@type":"PISSN","@value":"00194344"},{"@type":"EISSN","@value":"18840051"}],"prism:publicationName":[{"@language":"ja","@value":"印度學佛教學研究"},{"@language":"en","@value":"Journal of Indian and Buddhist Studies (Indogaku Bukkyogaku Kenkyu)"},{"@language":"en","@value":"JOURNAL OF INDIAN AND BUDDHIST STUDIES (INDOGAKU BUKKYOGAKU KENKYU)"},{"@language":"en","@value":"jibs"},{"@language":"ja","@value":"印仏研、印度学仏教学研究"},{"@language":"en","@value":"IBK"},{"@language":"ja","@value":"印仏研"},{"@language":"en","@value":"JIBS"}],"dc:publisher":[{"@language":"en","@value":"Japanese Association of Indian and Buddhist Studies"},{"@language":"ja","@value":"日本印度学仏教学会"}],"prism:publicationDate":"2017","prism:volume":"65","prism:number":"2","prism:startingPage":"920","prism:endingPage":"913"},"reviewed":"false","url":[{"@id":"https://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/ibk/65/2/65_920/_pdf"}],"availableAt":"2017","foaf:topic":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=%E9%98%BF%E7%BE%85%E6%BC%A2","dc:title":"阿羅漢"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=%E6%9C%80%E5%BE%8C%E5%BF%83","dc:title":"最後心"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=%E4%B8%80%E5%88%87%E7%9F%A5","dc:title":"一切知"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=%3Ci%3Esarvaj%C3%B1a%3C/i%3E","dc:title":"sarvajña"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=%3Ci%3Esarvasarvaj%C3%B1a%3C/i%3E","dc:title":"sarvasarvajña"},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/all?q=%3Ci%3Eupayuktasarvaj%C3%B1a%3C/i%3E","dc:title":"upayuktasarvajña"}],"relatedProduct":[{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1362262944045295360","@type":"Article","relationType":["references"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@value":"Atheology and Buddhalogy In Dharmakīrti’s Pramānavārttika"}]},{"@id":"https://cir.nii.ac.jp/crid/1363388844975380224","@type":"Article","relationType":["references"],"jpcoar:relatedTitle":[{"@value":"The Buddha as Pram? $$\\underset{\\raise0.3em\\hbox{$\\smash{\\scriptscriptstyle\\cdot}$}}{n}$$ abh?ta: Epithets and arguments in the Buddhist ?logical? tradition"}]}],"dataSourceIdentifier":[{"@type":"JALC","@value":"oai:japanlinkcenter.org:2003581104"},{"@type":"CROSSREF","@value":"10.4259/ibk.65.2_920"},{"@type":"CIA","@value":"130006314876"}]}
