<p>Fukui Prefecture promotes the utilization of open data that anyone is able to use freely in the whole area. It released the data of all the cities and the towns which standardized the content and the style for the first time as a prefecture. In other words, the prefecture promotes secondary use by disclosing data in a style suitable for machine determination. In addition to publishing data, it performs app contests and dissemination activities, and the number of app developments that utilized open data is top-class in Japan. Moreover, Sabae City, Fukui prefecture is the advanced local government that engaged open data for the first time in Japan, and it pushes the administrative transparency, the civic participation and the cooperation between public and private sectors by open data. We herein report the initiatives of Fukui Prefecture and the remarkable advanced example of Sabae City.</p>
