Abstract
<p>Effects of the preference to non-parallel alignment of neighboring molecules are examined within a mean-filed spirit. A conceptual phase diagram is proposed and discussed in relation to chiral liquids consisting of achiral molecules and cubic liquid crystals. A molecular factor that favors the gyroid phase is identified.</p>
