Description

The Moodle is one of well−known opensource LMSs. This paper briefly shows its history, present state and functions, with examples of practical uses in the Kumamoto Internet Shiminjuku, which is a lifelong e−learning project managed by citizens. Since the project requires an e−learning environment where anyone can become not only a student but also a teacher, and the Moodle is very useful to provide such an environment under an open license. The open source codes make it easy to customize the system for the lifelong e−learning project. We also present practical courses on science, English and course design and cooperation with local communities, such as a local company, a senior computer−using group, and a high school.
