Description

Vinylic cross-linkers consisting of an axle component and one or two ring components to form [2]- or [3]rotaxane bearing two vinyl groups, were synthesized to prepare topologically cross-linked polymers by adding them to free radical polymerization systems of common vinyl monomers. In the case of [2]rotaxane cross-linkers, the mechanical properties of obtained cross-linked polymers improved, especially by using macromolecular [2]rotaxane cross-linkers having polymer chains as the axle components. [3]Rotaxane cross-linkers were designed so as to consist of either a photodegradable axle or size-complementary end-capping groups that allow the controllable deslippage. The resultant polymers cross-linked by the [3]rotaxane cross-linkers underwent the decross-linking by some specific stimuli and were converted to soluble polymers.
