Abstract

This study surveyed professionals in high mobility society to study the relationship between organizational loyalty and job change experiences. This study resulted in the following three discoveries. (1) Many people experienced job changes more than twice regardless of their social attributes. Many of them have three to five years’ experience in an organization. They consider their job continuity and industrial career continuity when they change their jobs. Not all of these job changes are positive; one-third of them experienced layoff or bankruptcy. (2) Organizational loyalty remained high amidst such frequent job changes. Therefore, it became clear that loyalty can be found even in short-term affiliations with an organization. (3) The relationship between loyalty to an organization and job change experiences showed higher loyalty with more frequent job change experiences. In addition, without being given interesting job, there are interesting findings in the relationship between loyalty and job change experiences, and at relationship between loyalty and generation. In such situations where people are not given interesting jobs, higher loyalty is found in professionals who frequently change jobs than those who do so less often. Also, younger generations show higher loyalty than older generations. In a high mobility society, it is difficult to secure jobs, so that this improves their self-esteem since they are recognized as important persons. These results showed that high loyalty indicates reciprocity toward an organization as the social reward for selection.
