マイクロ波エネルギーは選択性，効率，安全性等の点から，近年医療分野における加熱をはじめとする分野で広く用いられている[1]。マイクロ波を放射するアプリケータのサイズや媒質による波長短縮効果を利用することにより，実用に際して幾何光学的な設計が有効となりうる。本稿では，癌組織のためのマイクロ波ハイパーサーミアを目的とし，患部への集中したエネルギー照射が可能な，レンズアプリケータとそのシステムについて概説する。
