理工系正規大学院留学生が日本国内の大学での専門分野の研究と学習を進める上で必要としている日本語教育は何かを明らかにするため，ニーズ調査アンケートを行った。その結果，大学での研究を遂行するにあたり，たとえ英語を主たる媒介語として使用している場合であっても，研究室での会話や授業参加において日本語が必要であること，また，大学のキャンパス外の日常生活を送るにあたって日本語が不可欠であることがわかった。これらの調査結果をもとに，増加する理工系正規大学院留学生のための日本語教育カリキュラムと教材整備をいっそう充実させていく必要がある。

In order to clarify what kind of Japanese language skills are necessary for international graduate students of science and technology at a Japanese university, we conducted a survey. The results indicated that students require conversational Japanese language skills for communication with co11eagues while conducting experiments in a laboratory setting and participation in seminars. In addition, conversation skills are necessary for daily interactions on campus. Furthermore, findings suggest this necessity exists even when English is the primary language of instruction for university coursework. Based on these findings, we re­examined the Japanese language course curriculum and developed prototype audio-visual material specifically for science and technology students. Additionally, further development of the course curriculum and enrichment of teaching material will be necessary in the future.
