Description

In clinical psychology, patients express themselves through various methods, yet the act of speaking has rarely been directly addressed in academic research in terms of its specificity and therapeutic significance. The purpose of this study was to conceptualize and systematize the act of speaking as a form of expression, clarifying its research significance and prospects. This study subdivided the process of speaking into “work of verbalization (work1)” and “work of delivering to the other party (work2).” By reviewing the clinical psychology literature on the expressive form of speaking and organizing the research history and methodologies, we examined how the topic has been discussed within the field of clinical psychology. The following research perspectives emerged: “literature that examines the internal processes experienced by the speaker” , “literature that understands the speaker’s representations and speech acts” and “Literature that asserts the importance of speech acts”. Further research should be conducted on the speaker’s internal experiences in performing the “work of delivering to the other party (work2).
