Description

Patients after replacement of left atrioventricular valve with mechanical valves who wish childbearing may encounter the issues related to anti-coagulation therapy and/or dysfunction of mechanical valves because of intrinsic patient prosthesis mismatch during pregnancy. We present a 34-year-old woman after the replacement of the left atrioventricular valve (SJM23mm) who suffered acute lung edema during late pregnancy, requiring an urgent cesarean section. Although she gave birth to a healthy baby and recovered from pulmonary edema, her NYHA deteriorated to grade III after delivery. She successfully underwent re-replacement of the mechanical valve (SJM25mm Regent).
