Description

Abstract: A semi-structured interview survey was conducted with seven members of the A branch of The Japan Ostomy Association to elucidate the challenges faced in daily life and the significance of activities of ostomates participating in patient associations. For ostomates, patient associations serve as valuable social resources to address the challenges they face daily. Moreover, the significance of participating in patient associations includes receiving emotional and informational support from other ostomates, supporting fellow ostomates, and contributing to the enhancement and reassurance of their quality of life. Nurses are expected to support and work with patient associations, which could serve as a platform to connect professionals and ostomates, providing an opportunity for professionals to learn from ostomates.
