Abstract

<p>This paper discusses the effects and evaluation of art-appreciation education using a high-resolution duplicate of cultural property, featuring the Image of Hawks and Pine Trees, located at Nijo Castle. In considering, we set up classes of art-appreciation and analyzed the worksheets students filled in. The purpose of this lecture is to enjoy appreciating an art work and to know about the meaning or political nature of it. The concept of “art” leads people to assume something noble and esoteric, but this image often become an obstacle when it comes to appreciating the Japanese paintings before the Edo period. It is necessary for enjoying Japanese cultural heritage to correctly recognize how they were taken up at that time. It seemed too difficult for junior high school students to understand, however, high-reproducibility of the copy appeared to help them. In addition, we mention the protection of cultural properties in consideration of the time immediately after the Kumamoto earthquake in 2016. The presence of high-definition reproduction, which cannot be found in textbooks and video projections, also helped understanding the importance of protecting cultural heritage and raised educational effects.</p>
