Description
This paper presents a video coding algorithm based on HEVC for screen content. HEVC still has a room for improvement in efficiency of screen content coding since it does not exploit many properties of screen content which are quite different from those of camera-captured content. The proposed algorithm includes three new coding tools: (i) inter-component prediction for dissolving correlation between color components, (ii) independent uniform prediction for effective coding of flat region, and (iii) histogram correction for noise removal. Experimental results clearly demonstrate that the proposed method significantly improves the performance of screen content coding compared with original HEVC.
