Abstract
The objective of this study is to assess the residual strength of structural steel after cyclic loading using cohesive-traction embedded elasto-plastic model with combined isotropic-kinematic hardening. By development from the cohesive-traction embedded damage model, the elasto-plastic model is combined with local equilibrium conditions between principal stress and cohesive traction. The relationship between cohesive traction and crack opening displacement is determined by cohesive zone model that Rice and Wang have proposed. In addition, the fatigue damage under the cyclic loading due to plastic deformation is introduced into critical opening displacement and critical cohesive traction to express the reduction of strength and toughness. On the other hand, the evolution of the isotropic-kinematic hardening in the elasto-plastic model is determined by the combination between Voce hardening law and Chaboche model. For comparison of the numerical results, experiments with the round notched bars are conducted under the monotonic loading after cyclic loading with constant amplitude of plastic strain. Throughout the comparison between numerical and experimental results, it is confirmed that our developed model can represent the reduction of fracture strain after the cyclic loading.
