Kyogen can be called a theatre art that keeps moving forward. In every Kyogen play, changes of locations take place, and a multiple number of times in most plays. Shown mostly in stereo-typical blocking patterns, the changes of place bear many purposes-from going on an errand in the neighborhood, to traveling a long distance from Kyoto to a northern province. Not oniy Kyogen's changes of place are efficiently executed, they create lively rhythm in the overall performance and dynamic spatial design throughout the perfonnance space. In Part III, which will be the final discussion of Kyogen's changes of place, we will look at some plays in which such changes take place in super-dimensions, that is, in the realm not belonging to our daily environments. We will also discuss the theatrical efficacy which is created through places and changes of places in Kyogen.
