国文学研究資料館通常展示「書物で見る日本古典文学史」の一角に設置している特設コーナーにて、平成二十六年一月二十一日から三月十日の間、本稿標題に掲げるテーマで観相に関する資料を紹介した。 これは、観相が人物・キャラクター造型に与えた影響の可能性を確かめるために、その営みの跡をとどめる文学・絵画、それに関連する言説や相書に残された記述の一端を示したものである。「観相」とは、人の身体・容貌・声・気色(オーラのようなもの)を観察して、その性質・禍福を見通すことをいい、いわゆる人相見である。かつては、大いに普及していた知識体系が、文芸・絵画等の創作活動に影響を与えていたであろうことは想像に難くない。そこで、当該展示においては、観相書の記述と、その営みが、古典作品や記録、また様々な表現活動に及ぼした影響箇所の例示も試みた。本稿はそれを記録として残す意味でしたためたものである。 From 21st January to 10th March 2015, we had exhibited “Attempt of Japanese Literary History seen from Physiognomy” at a corner of Special Exhibition in the National Institute of Japanese Literature (NIJL), appended to the Normal Exhibition of “Japanese Classic Literary History View from The Pre-modern Books”. In this exhibition, we showed some documents on literature, paintings, remarks and physiognomy’s guidance, which substantiate physiognomy may have been affected those character moldings. Physiognomy means prospects concerned a person’s disposition and his weal and woe through observations of body, face, voice, and “Kishoku (aura)”. It has been commonly called “Ninsomi” in Japan. In the past, physiognomy was well-known knowledge system, which greatly influenced to the creative activities of literature and paintings. In order to clarify this phenomenon, we made arrangements to exhibit the issues on physiognomy, which show the great influence of physiognomy upon many classic works, chronicles, and other various expression activities. This paper is a report of the first attempt.
