Description

This study used the “Corpus of Task-based Writing for Japanese Language Education” to investigate the use of degree adverbs by native speakers and learners of Japanese. The results of the study, which focused on the tendency to use adverbs according to human relationships, confirmed differences in the tendency to use 'takusan', 'sugoku', 'motto', and 'chotto' by the writer's mother language. Detailed analysis of the usage examples revealed that the adverb usage tendencies of native speakers and learners differ according to what they value. It was also suggested that there is a need to demonstrate the importance of a perspective of politeness in teaching.
